MY WORKOUT ESSENTIALS:
The following items are absolute essentials that, in my opinion are needed for a good workout.
It’s important to have good quality workout gear. If you’re buying workout clothes with poorly made material, stop now. Yes, it can be expensive buying some quality workout gear, but I recommend investing in one or two good pieces, they will last you a long time, it won’t smell when you sweat, your skin will be able to breathe properly and you wont get any rashes if you have sensitive skin like I do. It’s well worth the money.
Like I mentioned above, it’s important to have good quality workout gear, and bras are definitely the most important thing to get right. You don’t want to buy a cheap sports bra, they are tight in all the wrong places and most likely won’t support you properly and you’ll notice pain when you workout (has happened to me countless times) Invest in a good sports bra, get professionally fitted and you will notice an increase in your performance because you will be able to breathe properly and you wont have pain when doing high intensity exercises.
A great addition to any workout move. Adds extra weight and resistance and ups the intensity of the workout. So versatile and helps to sculpt your body. I like incorporating dumbbells when i’m squatting, doing lunges and ab exercises, also helps to up the calorie burn.
Of course, an obvious one. Hydration is key when working out. If your not hydrated enough it severally decreases your performance and energy levels, sip on your water in small amounts throughout your workout and keep your bottle close by. Be sure not to drink too much water as well otherwise you’ll give yourself a stitch.
In my opinion, a skipping rope is a must have. I use it to warm up before a workout, cool down after a workout and also within the workout! Skipping ropes are so cheap and they are amazing for your health. They give you the best workout and increase your heart rate super quick for maximum fitness and calorie burn. With so many different variations of skipping you’ll never get bored of it. You can use it solely for a full workout and it would be fantastic. It’s also fantastic for your coordination, agility and strength snd conditioning.
iPod + Headphones:
Having a great workout music playlist is the essential key to a successful workout. Music is so effective, it can literally make or break your workout. I know that I cannot exercise unless have some tunes blasting through my ears. Research conducted at Brunel University has confirmed that listening to music while you exercise could increase your endurance by up to 15%. More research consistently finds that listening to music distracts athletes from their “bodily awareness” aka, pain. Studies have found that not just listening, but controlling and creating music in time to an individuals pace had an even more profound effect on perceived effort during a workout. A bit of workout music pumps you up prior and puts you “in the zone.” It can increase your pace and elevate your mood, this in turn increases your performance.

Like the weights, they add an extra element to the workout, they provide extra resistance (duh) and help to tone those muscles. They also help burn extra calories and can easily be incorporated into any workout. Small, compact, easy to carry round and cheap, they are a must for any workout routine.
A must have. I use this during my workouts for back/knee support when doing ab exercises or moves like lunges where your knee has to touch the floor and it may hurt. You definitely need one for ab exercises and I also use it for stabilising myself if i’m doing high impact jumping moves (eg: Tuck jumps, diamond jumps etc) on a hard floor. It helps to cushion the impact which can help to protect your joints and prevent injuries. I also use it in the cool down of my workout for stretching and of course when i’m doing yoga!
Having a good pair of runners is essential. It can help to prevent injuries, especially during high impact exercises like running. It also helps to increase your performance as you won’t have any pain and i’ts just better for your feet and back in general!
No secrets what this is for! You’re gonna need it to wipe that sweat off!
A workout log is absolutely essential to consistent progress. Use your workout journal to record sets, reps, weights, time running and rest etc. You need to know how much you lifted or how many reps you did of a move in past workouts to lift more in future workouts. A gym log is an essential tool for anyone trying to build their best self. Be sure to track every session!
